Ask: can these five cards make the nuts in multiple ways? Double-suited A-high rundowns yes. Raggy unpaired single-suited junk no.

If your buddy's explanation is 'I have five cards,' fold for him.

Example keepers: A♠A♥K♠Q♥J♠ (big pair + suited broadway connectivity). Example folders: K♥9♦6♣4♠2♥ rainbow trash. Five cards of mediocrity is still mediocrity.

Five-card PLO: more wraps and nut potential, also more domination. Prefer nutted redraws over pretty flopped pairs.
